ALT text
ALT text is alternative text that is displayed for a picture on a web site. You typically see ALT text while you're waiting for a picture to be displayed on a web site. A picture's ALT text is also displayed if you hover the mouse pointer over a picture on a web site. ("Hover" means to position the mouse pointer over something, such as a picture, but not click.)

It's generally considered "good web etiquette" to have ALT text for all pictures. Many web surfers do not want to take the time to wait for pictures to load and have set their browsers not to display pictures. These people see only the ALT text instead of pictures. Also, some browsers were developed for the visually impaired, and these browsers read the ALT text out loud to their users instead of displaying the picture.

Tip:   In the templates, each picture's ALT text includes the picture's size. If you want to replace one of these pictures but use the same size, first hover over the picture to display its ALT text and note the size.
